There's nothing that binds a culture more than a good rugby match except its music! In Jou Ma Se ... Platespeler we look at Afrikaans music against the backdrop of changing technology - from seven singles to streaming and everything in between - as well as changes in our country, which gave a new voice to Afrikaans artists. 

 

I went “down memory lane”…. from songs grandpa played for us on the record player on a Sunday, to my brother and I fighting over whose cassette was going to be played in the car on the way to school (thankfully we got "walkmans" to solve that problem !), to where dad played his Smokey and Billy Joel in High School dorm (then on CDs) for 2 hours every Friday and Sunday, for 5 years. The good old times with family and friends. Our younger generation does not always take into account how special and unique our Afrikaans mother tongue is. Tonight our Afrikaans music culture, from start to finish, was on fire, excellent. Thank you very much again. Grateful and so privileged.
